Facilities

The facilities dedicated to the efforts of Experimental Surgical Services have been involved in the innovations of medical technology since the early 1950’s. Our newly renovated facilities include five state of the art operating suites.  Other amenities that we feel are important to offer timely and accurate research are the following:

• Pathology laboratory
• Pre/Post operative units
• Angiography suite
• MRI unit
• Extensive data archives

For remote meetings, we have video conference rooms and high-speed web-based access. These improvements mean that now more than ever, you can depend on ESS as your total research and testing facility, from discovery to final FDA or ISO submission. As the industry leader in researching and testing cardiac devices and surgical techniques, we know how to provide you with research that’s right.

RESOURCES

As a division within the Academic Health Center at the University of Minnesota, excellent resources surround us. Our veterinary support, Research Animal Resources, includes 5 veterinarians and 2 board certified in Laboratory Animal Care. The Center for Magnetic Resonance Research is the home of one of the world's first 4 Tesla whole body imaging instruments, as well as a smaller bore 9.4 Tesla NMR machine. In addition to these 2 systems, the center also has a third 4.7 Tesla NMR machine, which is also of a smaller bore size than the 4T instrument. By working with ESS, the resources of the University of Minnesota are at your fingertips.
